DEPOSITING DATA IN THE ARCHIVE

The Archive is actively seeking for publicly accessible sociological data for inclusion into the library, and accepts offers from researches and data owners who want to provide broader access to their data files. Data for archiving must include the necessary documentation. The SDA process deposited data for the purpose of archiving, protects them from possible damage, and makes them available to secondary users.

Archived data remains the property of the depositor. The Archive and secondary users of data files are required to uphold the copyright. The standard conditions of the Archive for the provision of data sets and its documentation include:

  • Use of Data: Data may be used only for non-commercial research or educational purposes. The intended purposes of the data usage are to be specified in advance, and may not be altered.
  • Confidentiality of Personal Information: Personal information about the surveys' respondents is strictly confidential. The user of a data set may not publicise or attempt to locate this information on the basis of the data.
  • Necessity of Acknowledgement: Any kind of publication of information taken from a data file must be accompanied by an accurate indication of its source (according to standard social science practices).
  • Prohibition of Further Distribution: The user of a file must not, without the permission of the Archive, further distribute data or make possible the access to data to anyone not specified in the request.
  • Notification about Publications: The user is required to notify the Archive about any of his/her publications based on data obtained from the Archive.
  • Responsibility for the reliability of the data: The original collectors of the data and the Archive bear no legal responsibility for the reliability of the data and accuracy of their interpretation!
